Wrestling: Ohio hosts two MAC opponents this weekend

Ohio (5-5, 3-2 Mid-American Conference) will start off a stretch of home duals by hosting two conference opponents, Central Michigan and Bloomsburg. The two duals will be the first time that the Bobcats are in The Convo since Jan. 5.

Here is the information for this weekend:

Opponents: Central Michigan (3-4, 3-2 MAC) | Bloomsburg (2-5, 0-4 MAC)

Meet Location: The Convo

Meet Dates: Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. | Feb. 2 at 1 p.m.

How to watch: ESPN+

What’s happened so far:

Ohio is currently on a three-dual win streak, all of which were against MAC opponents. The Bobcats have already completed their road schedule with seven regular season duals remaining.

Dual information:

Despite Central Michigan’s mediocre overall record, it should not be taken lightly by Ohio. The Chippewas are currently ranked No. 3 in the MAC and have five wrestlers ranked in the top six in their weight classes in the conference. Two of them are ranked No. 1 in their class: Drew Hildebrandt (125-pounds) and Matt Stencel (heavy weight).

Last season, Ohio traveled to Mount Pleasant and defeated Central Michigan 19-15.

The Huskies are in their first season in the MAC following the expansion this offseason. They have yet to beat their first conference opponent this season and are ranked No. 12 in the MAC. Trevor Allard (184 pounds) is likely to be the strongest opponent that Bloomsburg throws at Ohio. He is the top ranked wrestler in his weight class in the conference and is ranked No. 12 by InterMat.

Neither opponent this weekend will be a pushover, but Ohio should be feeling confidence given its improvement from the beginning of the season and its current winning streak.
