Women's Basketball: Numbers to know from Ohio's 72-71 loss at Western Michigan

Ohio dropped to .500 Mid-American Conference play after a one-point road loss to Western Michigan on Wednesday night.

The Bobcats (9-6, 2-2 MAC) led the Broncos (10-5, 3-1 MAC) for over three quarters of the game, including with 14 seconds left in the fourth quarter in the 72-71 loss.

Cece Hooks led Ohio with 28 points for her second-straight game with over 25 points.

6.8 ­– For the second time in Ohio’s last three games it gave up a game winner with under 10 seconds left in the game. This time, Leighah-Amori Wool laid it up off the glass with 6.8 seconds on the clock. Bobcats’ coach Bob Boldon opted not to take a timeout and Ohio wasn’t able to get up a high-percentage shot.

25 – The Bobcats went five-for-20 from beyond the arc Wednesday night, shooting just 25%. Entering the game, Ohio was 1-4 when it shot less than 30% on three-pointers. The Bobcats are shooting an average of 26.8% from three in their six losses.

5 – Gabby Burris, Ohio’s fourth-leading scorer, fouled out in the fourth quarter and played just five minutes in the final period. Two of Burris’ five fouls came in the final period. The junior scored eight points.

17 – Ohio made 17 free throws on 21 attempts, good for 81%. This is the first time the Bobcats have shot over 80% from the free throw line.

What’s next?

Ohio will return home on Saturday to play Ball State for the first time this season. The Bobcats beat the Cardinals in both matchups last season. Ohio won the most recent game between the two teams 94-62 at The Convo.
