The Mid-American Conference will eliminate postseason tournaments from eight sports and will make major changes to men’s and women’s basketball.
On Tuesday, MAC Commissioner Jon Steinbrecher confirmed to WTOL’s Jordan Strack that in 2021, the conference would eliminate postseason tournaments from the following sports:
- Baseball
- Softball
- Men’s Soccer
- Women’s Soccer
- Men’s Tennis
- Women’s Tennis
- Women’s Lacrosse
- Field Hockey
For basketball, the MAC will eliminate divisions and increase the conference season from 18 games to 20. The first-round home games are also a thing of the past. Instead, the top eight teams in the conference will go straight to Cleveland for a chance at the title. Had those rules been in play this season, Ohio’s men’s basketball team would have made the tournament by one game.
