Professional athletes strike by postponing games; OU faculty and professors do their best to stay safe during the pandemic

Today is Aug. 27, 2020. Here’s what you need to know:

Good morning,

Multiple professional sports postponed events Wednesday when players agreed to strike following Jacob Blake, a Black man, being shot in the back multiple times by a Kenosha police officer.

The first game to be postponed was an NBA playoff game between the Milwaukee Bucks and Orlando Magic. The Bucks’ players agreed not to play their scheduled game together. Following the first postponement, the NBA later announced that it would also hold off on two other playoff games that night.

The NBA wasn’t the only league to postpone its games. Three MLB games were postponed, including a game hosted by the Milwaukee Brewers, who play in a city less than 50 miles north of Kenosha. No WNBA games were played Wednesday, and five MLS games were also postponed.
