Weekender Briefs: What’s happening this week

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, a lot of events have been canceled or rescheduled. However, some organizations and Athens groups are adapting to the Ohio stay-at-home order and hosting events online through virtual services, like Zoom and Microsoft Teams. Here’s a list of some events still happening this week:

Friday, Aug. 14

Sam Bush free live concert at 7:30 p.m., hosted by ENJOY free live music. Stream this concert online for a night full of music. For easy registration, head to the Facebook event page or the ENJOY Facebook page.

Bangers 4: Return of the King at 9 p.m., hosted by DJ B-Funk, DJ Barticus and WOUB Public Media. Though places have started to open up, DJ Barticus feels mass gatherings aren’t the greatest idea for people’s health. Join the livestream through Twitch.tv or through Instagram @bartykutz.

Saturday, Aug. 15

Yoga in the Park at 9:30 a.m., hosted by Athens Yoga. Join various instructors for a socially distant outdoor yoga class. Links to pay the instructors are on the Facebook event page.

June Star Performance at 8 p.m., hosted by June Star, Smiling Skull Saloon and Dave Hadley. The June Star duo of Andrew Grimm and Hadley comes to a rolling stop in Athens at the Smiling Skull Saloon, 108 W. Union St.

Sunday, Aug. 16

Sustainable Living Network at 4 p.m., hosted by the Athens Farmers Market. The socially distanced, masked tour is hosted by Kip Parker. Come and learn about the PV system, prairie grass planting and woodland management at 15088 Ruth Road, Guysville. Check the Facebook event page for directions and more information.

Monday, Aug. 17

Online/Zoom Morning Yoga with Michelle Greenfield at 7 a.m., hosted by Bodhi Tree Guesthouse & Studio. Start the day with an energizing movement, stretching and breath work to create space and overcome stagnation. Expect some flow, some floor poses, great stretches and invigorating breath work. Pre-register at least 30 minutes prior to the start time of class to receive the Zoom link.

Thursday, Aug. 20

Painting @ Home: Humpback Whales at 5:30 p.m., hosted by the Dairy Barn Arts Center. Join the Dairy Barn for a workshop from home. If you want to purchase a canvas through the Dairy Barn, you will also get a stencil to ensure you complete a painting you really love. See the ticket link on the Facebook event page for additional pricing.

SpeakOUt Summer 2020 at 4 p.m., hosted by Ohio University LGBT Center. Join this Pride Month event with a virtual panel to hear and share stories from LGBTQ+ people about their experiences and identities. Email lgbt@ohio.edu or DM on social media to be added to the Microsoft Teams event.
