Athens is ready for its first and only non-conference game of the season against Marietta on Friday.
The Bulldogs (1-1, 1-1 TVC-Ohio) have a lot of ground to make up after their 28-20 loss to Vinton County last week. The loss came as a shock to Athens — who had maintained a 12-win streak over the Vikings since joining the TVC-Ohio in 2008.
Friday is a chance for the Bulldogs to correct their course. Marietta is 0-2 and was blown out 28-6 by Warren in its first game. If Athens pulls out a win, it can bolster its record as well as give itself some breathing room between TVC-Ohio opponents.
Venue: Joe Burrow Stadium, The Plains, OH
Kickoff: 7:00 p.m.
How to listen: 970 WATH will have a broadcast for the game
- Friday’s game will be the first time the Bulldogs and Tigers have faced each other since 2007. In that game, Marietta defeated Athens 41-11.
- This will be Marietta’s third straight non-conference game. The Tigers have yet to play an opponent from the East Central Ohio League (Scarlet) this season.
