Existential Binge-Watching: The best of Unus Annus

Unus Annus, the YouTube channel run by Mark Fischbach and Ethan Nestor, is officially less than two weeks out from its inevitable deletion. If you haven’t been keeping up, it’s about that time now where it’ll be nearly impossible to see every video. Luckily for those who fell behind, or maybe even those looking for a way to look back, I’ve gone ahead and picked the best video of each month to have come from the death-obsessed dynamic duo.

Cooking with Sex Toys (Nov. 15, 2019): As the first true video of Unus Annus, Mark and Ethan certainly set the tone for what was to come. The title says it all; they go to a sex store, buy items from said sex store and then cook a nice little breakfast with them. Hilarity ensues.

Mark and Ethan Attempt an Escape Room (Dec. 6, 2019): This video gave viewers the opportunity to see what Mark and Ethan cooperating during an emergency might look like. Hint: just a bit unorganized and sidetracked.

Ethan Finally Becomes a MAN (Jan. 10, 2020): One of the many examples of the two YouTubers attempting to do something, but not quite getting there, this video saw the two trying to build a dog house for Mark’s dog, Chica. Ethan is just a little less knowledgeable about the whole woodworking thing.

Nutball: The Most Dangerous Game (Feb. 10, 2020): It’s the two of them rolling Gatorade bottles at each other with their legs wide open. What more could you ask for from an Unus Annus video?

We Got Pepper Sprayed (March 10, 2020): As fun as it is to see the two handles getting pepper sprayed, this video actually ends up being a bit heartwarming as it’s one of the rare instances where Mark shows a little bit of care toward Ethan, encouraging him almost throughout the entire ordeal.

We Looked at Unus Annus Memes (April 30, 2020): Quarantine hit Unus Annus hard. But, a lot of gems also came out of this era of the channel, including a look at the incredibly hilarious community of fans and their creations on the channel’s subreddit.

What the Hell is a Pink Trombone? (May 2, 2020): It’s better to leave this one here without an explanation. If you’re in need of a laugh, just go watch it.

Pee Sauna (June 17, 2020): It’s not the first time Mark and Ethan got up close and personal with each other’s pee and it wouldn’t be the last. It was also the first video back from quarantine after months of sad separation. Props go to Evan the cameraman for suggesting the idea.

The Unus Annus Space Program (July 11, 2020): In one of the few instances where Mark and Ethan successfully do something they saw on the internet, this video carries an aura of fulfillment with it on top of the usual morbid observations.

Hunting HeeHoo (Aug. 29, 2020): A lot of cryptids have come out of Unus Annus: Melon Man, The Gongoozler and, of course, HeeHoo, the evolution of Caveman Mark. If you're unfamiliar with all of these, it’s okay, this video is still a very clear indication these two could actually make a full on feature film with their amazing camera and editing team.

Pee Soda (Sept.17, 2020): This video was again brought up by Evan. Though, in agreeing to carbonate their own pee, the two vowed for the video to be the last one including urine on the channel. And, so far, that vow has held true.

Mark Breaks His Nose On An Aerial Hoop (October 4, 2020): Unus Annus, throughout its run, has had a lot of amazing guests. From Jacksepticeye to Alex the fitness instructor to this video’s recurring guest, Vixen Deville. She previously taught Mark and Ethan how to eat fire and walk on glass, and the chaos continues with the aerial hoop. She also matches their energy extremely well.

Accepting the Truth (November 1, 2020): Seemingly in the blink of an eye, here we are; the last stretch of videos. After fully adopting their personas as Unus and Annus in the October 31st video -- a truly well done, cinematic piece -- the two discuss the end of the channel and what to expect as we near deletion.

This includes the invitation for those who haven’t seen Unus Annus to at least experience some of it before it’s gone and to join the final day livestream on Friday, November 13th at 3 p.m. There truly will never be anything like this again, and there’s so many more amazing videos than the ones I picked out here so be sure to watch while you can.

And, of course, in the words of the two who definitely haven’t started a cult: Memento mori. Unus annus.
