Ohio Volleyball has had a very nontraditional start to its season. The Bobcats season-opening match on Jan. 22 lasted a full 24 hours, due to a citywide power outage in Athens, Ohio. Then, Ohio’s series against Eastern Michigan was postponed because of COVID-19 related issues with the Eagles. Now, the Bobcats are looking for some normalcy as they travel to Akron on Thursday to take on the Zips over two days.
Ohio (1-1, 1-1 Mid-American Conference) is currently fourth in the MAC, with Akron (1-3, 1-3 MAC) right behind them in fifth. A win this week against the Zips would give the Bobcats early momentum in the MAC.
Opponent: Akron Zips (1-3, 1-3 MAC)
Time: Thursday, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m.
Place: James A. Rhodes Arena (Akron, OH)
How to watch: ESPN+
The Bobcats have dominated the Zips in volleyball over the past 15 years. Since 2006, Ohio has won 27 out of 28 matches against Akron, the majority of which have been sweeps. The last time Ohio and Akron played each other was on Nov. 16, 2019, when the Bobcats beat the Zips 3-1 in a handful of very close sets (21-25, 29-27, 25-21, 25-21).
