Abby Miller will be the next editor-in-chief of ‘The Post’

Abby Miller, the current news editor, will be The Post’s next editor-in-chief.

Miller was selected Monday afternoon after presenting to The Post Publishing Board. She said she is excited for next year and has plans on how to improve the organization.

“I really want to focus on diversity both in our content and then our staff as a whole,” Miller said. “I really want to work hard on making sure we're recruiting from diverse backgrounds and including different voices here at The Post.”

She said she also wants to work on engaging with The Post’s audience next year.

“I really hope to just make everyone more aware of the impact that The Post has for Ohio University students,” Miller said. “For example, things like the Salary Guide really shed light on and help propel things like the budget crisis that we're going through and some of the activism that students are doing.”

Hans Meyer, The Post Publishing Board chair and an associate professor of journalism, said Miller has a good vision for the future of The Post.

“The one thing, I think, that helped Abby stand out was her long-term vision for The Post in relation to the uncertain time that we are (in) right now,” Meyer said. “As she put together her plan, it had a lot of contingencies for different aspects.”

Molly Schramm, the current editor-in-chief, said Miller has great ideas for the upcoming year.

“She wants to enact change. She wants to better The Post. She wants to implement new things, and I think the balance of those two is what really made her stand out,” Schramm said. “She is respecting the traditions of The Post, but she's also been very innovative. She has a lot of great ideas to take The Post forward.”

Meyer said her experience in journalism will be beneficial for the staff.

“She's had other leadership roles at The Post in the past as well, so she has great experience that I think staff can draw upon,” Meyer said.

Schramm said Miller’s ability to form relationships made her a good candidate for the position.

“I think she's really going to bring a lot to the role. Abby's great at making relationships with people and maintaining relationships with people,” Schramm said. “So she's going to be great because when you’re editor-in-chief, you’re sort of the face of The Post.”

Miller said earning the position as editor-in-chief is rewarding, as she has been with The Post since her freshman year.

“Being able to kind of work up the ladder, so to speak, and be editor-in-chief is really amazing,” Miller said. “To see all my hard work pay off, and then just seeing everyone congratulate me and being so happy for me, just makes me feel so loved here at The Post, and that's really exciting, too.”
