Field Hockey: Ohio returns home for conference match against Ball State

Ohio will host Ball State for its second Mid-American Conference match on Friday. This is the second conference match of the season for both teams. The Bobcats are coming off two tough road losses, including a 3-2 double overtime loss to Kent State and a 2-1 loss against Saint Francis.

Match Information:

  • Ohio’s current record: 2-7 (0-1 MAC)
  • Opponent: Ball State (3-5, 1-0 MAC)
  • Match Location: Pruitt Field
  • Match Date: Sept. 24th at 3 p.m.

Although the Bobcats are 2-7 on the season so far, there is still much to play for in this match against the Cardinals. If Ohio can notch a win, it will give it its first conference victory of the year.

Ball State comes into Friday’s match with a 3-5 record. Its most recent matchup was the previous Friday, when it hosted Central Michigan for its first conference game. The Cardinals won 2-1. However, Ball State has a 1-3 record on the road this season, something that should play into Ohio’s hands.

The last meeting between Ohio and Ball State was March 20th, 2021. That was the second of a two-match weekend series played in Muncie, Indiana. The Bobcats won 2-1 and are looking to get a similar result on their home turf this Friday.

Ohio midfielder Katelyn Whittle got back on the scoring sheet in Sunday’s loss to Saint Francis. Whittle is Ohio’s leading scorer this season, with six goals, and is going to have to continue to find the back of the net to help Ohio secure a much-needed win. Another standout player who needs to perform well on Friday is Bodhi Littlefield, who has recorded one goal and one assist in her last two matches.
