Hockey: Breaking down Ohio's busy three-game weekend

Penalties plagued Ohio in its 5-2 loss against Pitt on Saturday, but it has three new chances fix its mistakes this weekend.

Ohio spent 25 minutes, more than a full period, in the penalty box Saturday, which diminished its confidence and contributed to the loss. However, the past is in the past. Ohio will have to put the loss behind it in order to be fully focused to play three games in three days against two new opponents.

Thursday

Opponent: West Virginia

Location: Bird Arena (Athens, Ohio)

Time: 7 p.m.

How to watch: Here

Series Information:

The last time the Bobcats and the Mountaineers met in Bird Arena was almost exactly three years ago. On Oct. 5, 2018, the Bobcats dominated the Mountaineers, beating them 12-1 in just the third game that season. On Oct. 6, 2018, Ohio traveled to Morgantown Municipal Ice Arena to do the same thing, beating West Virginia 11-1. In 2011, Ohio won against West Virginia four times in the regular season. Since then, the Bobcats are 7-1 against the Mountaineers.

Friday and Saturday

Opponent: Roosevelt

Location: Bird Arena (Athens, Ohio)

Time: 7 p.m.

How to Watch: Here

Series Information:

This series will be historic for the Bobcats. It will be the first time Ohio has ever played against Roosevelt. Roosevelt is playing in only its second season after merging with Robert Morris-Illinois in March 2020. Roosevelt will get a chance to see that playing in Bird Arena is no easy feat, especially against an eager Ohio team.
