City Council met Monday evening to discuss improvements to the West Washington Street sidewalks and destruction at the water treatment plant.
Councilman Jeff Risner, D-2nd Ward, introduced an ordinance that would improve sidewalk and safety conditions along West Washington St. Councilman Ziff, D-At Large, voiced appreciation for the ordinance.
"I know people on the west side often feel like a neglected neighborhood every once in a while,” Ziff said.
Mayor Steve Patterson also spoke on the ordinance and said the project had been coming for a long time with numerous former council members pushing for the project.
Another ordinance was proposed by Councilman Micah McCarey, D-At Large, for the destruction and replacement of a shoulder slab at a water treatment plant. A replacement project was also passed.
Additionally, Athens has once again been designated as a Green Power Community within the Sustainable Ohio Energy Council. Being designated as such is only awarded to those communities that have exceeded the Environmental Protection Agency’s guidelines for buying clean, renewable energy.
