OU names interim Southern campus dean

Deborah R. Marinski was named the interim dean of Ohio University Southern by Executive Vice President and Provost Elizabeth Sayrs on May 23.

Marinski’s appointment follows the current OU Southern dean and executive dean for regional higher education, Nicole Pennington’s, decision to step down from her roles and return to OU’s nursing faculty.

Marinski, a professor of history and scheduling coordinator, joined OU’s staff in 2014 and has served as chair of the OU Southern Faculty Council, speaker for the OU Southern Campus Graduate Recognition Ceremony and as a Faculty Senator during her time at OU Southern, according to a university news release. Marinski will begin her one-year term as interim dean June 1.

During her time as an OU Southern faculty member, Marinski received several awards including the 2019-20 Outstanding Faculty Member in Teaching award, the 2013-14 Outstanding Faculty Member in Service award and the 2011-12 Outstanding Faculty Member in Research award, according to the release.

“Dr. Marinski brings deep knowledge, experience and expertise to this position,” Sayrs said in the release. “I am grateful for her willingness to lead the Southern campus over the next year, and I am looking forward to working with her in this important role.”
