Fresh Finds Friday: Willow Releases ‘COPINGMECHANISM;’ Jazmine Sullivan shares moving song from ‘Till’ Soundtrack

As week eight comes to a close, it's a great time to listen to some new tunes going into the weekend. This past week, Willow, Bien et Toi and others have dropped new music.

While everyone has their favorite genre of music, we’ve made a playlist that will appeal to any mood or preference. Here are five new songs to get you through the week:

“<COPINGMECHANISM>” by Willow

Singer/songwriter Willow is the daughter of actors Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith and is no stranger to the music business. She released her first album in 2015 and returned with her latest album, “<COPINGMECHANISM>.” In an interview with Spotify, Willow said: “While recording this album, there were a lot of emotions going on. Coping with hard emotions and dark times and hoping it's a catharsis to feel loved and heard for who you are.”

“Stand Up (From the Original Motion Picture “Till”) by Jazmine Sullivan

Jazmine Sullivan released her song "Stand Up," a part of the soundtrack for the upcoming movie "Till," which tells the historic and heartbreaking story of the lynching of Emmett Till in 1955 Mississippi, according to a HYPEBEAST report. Sullivan captures the awakening sense of courage with the mass of upward rhythms and shares the message of "someone's counting on you." Be the change.

“So Be It” by Alex Vaughn

The rapidly emerging R&B singer/songwriter Alex Vaugh released her debut project, “The Hurtbook.” LVRN dubs the artist, “The Homegirl of R&B.” The project holds eight tracks. In each, Vaughn pours her soul out and processes breakups and the process of moving on with life lyrics, “So be it/ It’s been a hard time adjusting.”

Vaughn states that the album “Started as a compilation of thoughts from an old relationship but grew into a quilted map of patterns and events that applied to more than just romance,” according to RatedRnb interview.

“Swan Upon Leds” by Hozier

Hozier, the Irish Singer/Songwriter, best known for his hit moody and soulful rock single, “Take Me to Church,” returned with his new single “Swan Upon Leda,” which he released the song as a track now to “show solidarity with those fighting for reproductive rights” and continued to explain later that he wrote the song in Ireland a year ago, with producer Jenn Decilveo. All money made from the song’s release will be donated to Mayday, AidAccess and Plan C organizations that work to ensure women and pregnant people can gain safe access to reproductive healthcare.

“London Safari” by Bien et Toi

Bien et Toi is a solo project of Gianluca Buccellati, a Grammy-nominated and Britt award-winning producer who’s worked with emerging artists such as Arlo Parks and Terry Presume. Buccellati released his debut album as Bien et Toi titled “London Safari,” which boasts four tracks and has features from Sophie Meiers, Biig Piig and more. The track explores lo-fi-like beats with experimental synth plucks and melodies on the backtracks

Its second track, “Rainbow Tables,” talks about the push and pull of a breakup with lyrics: “We fight like kids and we get high/ Shouldn’t have come round last night / New moon settles in truth ain’t so simple.
