Swim and Dive: Ohio earns second win of the season against Miami

Ohio’s season is off to a strong start. 

The Bobcats are 2-1 (1-0 Mid-American Conference) after they added a 177.5-122.5 win at home against the RedHawks Saturday. It was the first time the Bobcats have beat their rival at home in 11 years, and they never faltered throughout the meet. 

Ohio had first-place finishers in both of the first two events Saturday. Allison Schrank, Annmaria Hornyak, Gabrielle Brust and Caroline Dunigan swam the 200-yard medley in one minute and 42.6 seconds, winning the race for Ohio. 

The Bobcats continued their success in the 1,000 freestyle race. They took all of the top three spots. Freshman Lauren Hartel finished first, followed by Morgan Croaning and Gabrielle McKee. 

Ohio also had swimmers place first, second and third in the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard breaststroke races. Overall, Ohio finished first in seven of the events Saturday. 

On the diving board, Halli Siwik finished second in the one-meter dive with a score of 268.28 and earned four points for the team score.Sienna Brenton finished fourth in the three-meter dive with a score of 236.03 and earned two points for the team score.
