Athens City Council met in committees on Monday to discuss a possible cooperation agreement between the City of Athens and the municipality of Ostroh.
Ostroh is located in western Ukraine and is represented by Mayor Yurij Yahodka.
Athens Mayor Steve Patterson said the agreement would allow Ostroh to understand how Athens’ government runs because it is working toward decentralizing its government.
“(The) whole program is for us as a government to educate (them) and also learn from what they’re doing as well,” Patterson said.
The agreement between Athens and Ostroh would obligate the cities to work together on projects, share ideas and hold events. It also includes the development of friendly relations between the two cities through promoting each other in the media and helping each other during tough times.
The agreement would be voted on in the form of a resolution from the body in order to proceed. It would not hold any contractual or legal obligation for the city.
