Happy fall, Bobcats! It’s the end of a beautiful week, and you know what the best part of my week is? Listening to new music. With that being said, it's always good to listen to some new tunes throughout the week and going into the weekend.
Although everyone has their favorite genre of music, we’ve made a playlist that will appeal to any mood or preference. Below are new songs from the past week that are perfect for walking to class, working out at the gym, sitting around in your dorm or cranking out those last-minute papers.
Here are five new songs to get you through the week:
“ONE MORE TIME” by blink-182
Emotions fill the air as blink-182 returns to its friendship with "ONE MORE TIME," in which Tom DeLonge opens up the track with "Strangers from strangers into brothers / From brothers into strangers once again." The original members of blink-182 haven't released any music since 2011 on NINE, and have come together once again for an album entitled "ONE MORE TIME" set to release Oct. 20. Still, for now, we've been treated to two songs, "More Than You Know" and "One MORE TIME," the latter of which features a music video that opens up the recollection of memories throughout the member’s time together as a band. As the song plays, clips range from the bank vault from The Rock Show music video, their performance at Warped Tour and several other familiar locations.
“Mirage” by OneRepublic, Assassins Creed, Mishaal Tamer
Gamers, prepare yourself. A new "Assassin's Creed" title is about to drop, and a song on the soundtrack from OneRepublic with the same title as the game "Mirage" comes with it. "Assassin's Creed Mirage" is set to release on Oct. 5 and is set in Baghdad, which inspired Ryan Tedder, the frontman who has extensively been in the Middle East and determined the goal of "Mirage "to capture the spirit of the region and reflect the location of the game sonically as much as possible." Within the track, the listener is greeted with a modernized soundscape of traditional Middle Eastern music, and it even includes a switch to Arabic lyrics for the second verse before closing out the track that sonically captures its intent.
“Starf*cker (Album)” by Slayyyter
It's Hollywood's "Starf*cker,'' which in tune is the title of Slayyyter's sophomore album. The intro track "I Love Hollywood."aints the scene for the next 35 minutes and 16 seconds of nonstop club music. The album features a 12-song collection of straight techno-fused beats inspired by "German club techno that I would hear when I was touring in Europe and 80s post-punk artists that have dark 80s baselines." Combined with visuals of glitter dresses, red lipstick, cigarettes, martinis and even nudity, Slayyyter explains: "I like to do things that other people aren't willing to do … which is be disgusting and naked."
“Again?” by Pawpaw Rod
Oklahoma-born singer/songwriter Rodney Hulsey, better known by his stage name PawPaw Rod, released his new single "Again?" along with a music video. The best way to describe it is if the word woozy was a song. In an Instagram post, Rod discusses the meaning of the song: "Spreading your wings, lust for life, purpose, motion, exploring; words that come to mind when I think about what this song ("Again"?) means to me." Over the beat, the lyrics of “running around” are repeated four times in the chorus, and “getting used to again,” the first phrase that opens the track, further emphasizes that life happens and is a feeling we all have to get used to again.
“Friends With Your Ex” by Landon Barker
Speaking of blink-182, here comes its drummer Travis Barker’s son Landon on his debut single “Friends With Your Ex.” His dad, Travis Barker, sets the stage with his drums and production skills, while Landon vocally explores a messy teenage relationship. The lyrics, “I was friends with your ex / You were with him when we met / Guess he hasn’t found out yet / But I know he’s gonna kill me when he sees me with you.” Barker sings the song accompanied by a music video starring his TikTok star girlfriend Charli D’Amelio, which screams SoCal vibes.
