The best cocktails, mocktails for fall

As the piña coladas, daiquiris and mojitos of summer cycle out, many people seek the perfect drink to pair with the cooler weather.

Here are some of the best cocktails or mocktails that you can enjoy this fall:

Apple cider bourbon

Apple cider is one of the best parts of the season. For an alcoholic twist, combine apple cider, bourbon, a few dashes of orange bitters, and ice before shaking or stirring it, depending on your preference. To add sweetness or spice, mix in maple syrup or cinnamon. For the mocktail, replace the bourbon with non-alcoholic vanilla extract to retain some sweet and spicy flavor.

Fireball hot chocolate

This is perhaps the easiest cocktail on the list. Mix hot chocolate and Fireball whiskey together for a quick, easy, warm drink for chilly autumn nights. To make it a mocktail, replace the Fireball whiskey with regular cinnamon or cinnamon extract.

Mudslides

A mudslide is a great way to enjoy coffee in a cocktail. Combine Kahlua, chocolate Irish cream and heavy cream into a shaker and strain into a cocktail glass. For a mocktail version, combine vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup, cold coffee, a dash of hazelnut syrup and milk in a blender for a frozen, non-alcoholic alternative.

White Russian

Another coffee and cream-flavored drink, the white Russian is a much simpler mudslide. Combine Kahlua, vodka and a splash of heavy cream and stir. To make it a mocktail, switch out the Kahlua with standard coffee and swap the vodka for sparkling or vanilla creme soda. To maintain the creaminess of the drink, you can also add milk.

Caramel apple martini

Caramel apples are a fall favorite. This recipe calls for apple cider, caramel vodka and butterscotch schnapps, giving it a warm, cozy flavor. To make it non-alcoholic, swap out the caramel vodka for caramel syrup and sparkling water and the butterscotch schnapps for butterscotch syrup.

Pomegranate margarita

Fruity drinks can still be enjoyed during the fall season. Mix pomegranate juice, tequila, triple sec, lime juice and maple syrup in a shaker and strain over ice for a delicious drink perfect for the season. Substitute orange juice for the triple sec and agave nectar for the tequila to make it a mocktail.
