Volleyball: Ohio set to face Bowling Green in weekend series

Coming off a loss against Western Michigan, Ohio will take on Bowling Green this Friday and Saturday at home. Ohio’s current overall record is 9-10, and Bowling Green is 7-10. The games are at 7 p.m. on Friday and 4 p.m. on Saturday. Friday is youth night, which includes post-game autographs, and Saturday is Ohio’s annual Dig Pink match.

When facing each other in the past, Ohio has come up with 12 wins and eight losses since 2010. Last year, the Bobcats struggled against the Falcons and ended in a 3-1 loss. It’s always a competitive match with these two teams because they are both eager for conference wins, especially after coming off a losing streak.

Both teams lost their last matches and struggled to work together to recover in the final sets. The Bobcats have lost to the Falcons the last three times they’ve gone head-to-head. Bowling Green has lost the past five games this season and has struggled to win more than one set in a match.

Falcon, Lauryn Hovey led her team in kills during their last match against Ball State. Similarly, Caitlin O’Farrell led Ohio with nineteen kills in their last home match against Western Michigan. Lauryn Hovey is a sophomore setter for Bowling Green and is from Ontario, Canada. She was titled 2022 MAC Freshman of the Year and 2022 MAC Tournament MVP. Bobcat, Caitlin O’Farrell is a graduate student leading her team every game this season. She won MAC East Offensive Player of the Week in October 2022. These athletes will lead their teams this weekend during both performances.

Lindsey LaPinta is another player for Bowling Green who has helped lead her team defensively. She led the Falcons with 17 digs during their last match, a career-high for her. A defensive leader for Ohio is Maci Watrous. Watrous has been one of the biggest leaders this season, leading their last match with 24 digs.

It’s going to be an exciting game with great leaders on both sides of the court.
