Jack of All Takes: NFL's set for unforgettable season

The 2025 NFL season is underway. Teams are rising, young stars are emerging, shootout games are in full swing and we’ve already seen stunning comebacks. With the race to Super Bowl LX underway, weeks one and two have shown that NFL fans are in for a real treat. If these early fireworks are any indication, then we are going to see one of the most fiery and unpredictable seasons in recent memory.

Sunday Night Football between the Ravens and Bills in week one was pure cinema and easily wins game of the year already. Derrick Henry plowed through Buffalo’s defense for 169 yards and 2 TDs in just 18 touches, but Buffalo had the last laugh.

In true MVP fashion, quarterback Josh Allen led a dramatic 15-point comeback in under four minutes, rallying for a 41-40 Bills victory and opening the year with a bang. I’m calling it now: Baltimore and Buffalo will rematch in the American Football Conference championship come January.

Major props to Russell Wilson and Dak Prescott, because Cowboys-Giants was an absolute barn-burner and deserves to be a game of the year candidate as well.

Cincinnati’s future hangs in the balance with Joe Burrow set to miss three months, Houston’s offense looks stagnant and the Chiefs are 0-2 with wide receivers Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy sidelined. The Broncos, Colts, Steelers or Patriots could stir up chaos and competition,  but none are true contenders in a top-heavy AFC. Now is the time for Buffalo or Baltimore to finally get over the hump.

The National Football Conference is ridiculously tough to rank, but my current top three spots go to the Eagles, Packers and Lions.

The defending champion Eagles may be fighting a slight “Super Bowl hangover,” but are still 2-0 and took down the Chiefs yet again in week two’s Super Bowl rematch, proving Philadelphia is here to stay.

Green Bay sits at 2-0 after statement wins over Detroit and Washington, looking poised to contend with one of the league’s most complete rosters. And Micah Parsons? Absolutely worth the trade, a game-changer.

The Lions bounced back from the loss to the Packers with a vengeance in week two. Hanging 52 points on their division rival, the Bears, proved that even without Ben Johnson calling plays, Detroit still has the NFL’s best offense.

The NFC is far from just a 3-team race, though. Jayden Daniels is hungry after Washington’s NFC Championship loss, and the Bucs, Cowboys and Rams have all shown promise. Even the injury-plagued, yet undefeated 49ers are proving they can still hang. Mac Jones showed out in week two, stepping in for the injured Brock Purdy and showing flashes of “rookie-year Mac.” This playoff race is going to be absolutely electric.

Two “sleeper” teams I am buying stock in are the Chargers and the Cardinals.

Justin Herbert, third in pass yards and tied third in TDs, is balling, and their Jim Harbaugh-led defense will always be threatening. Patrick Mahomes is not going away, but this feels like LA’s year to win the AFC West. Herbert and his much-improved weapons can earn this team the playoff success they’ve been desperate to achieve. Despite their flat-out nonexistent run game and the pile of defensive injuries, the Chargers have truly impressed me.

I am also loving the young and exciting Arizona Cardinals. With great schemes and developing talent all over, they could be ready to snag the NFC West throne. I think Kyler Murray is a great quarterback despite media narratives, and with Trey McBride, James Conner and Marvin Harrison Jr. this team can make noise. Don’t count them out of NFC contention.

Shout-out to a few players who’ve truly impressed me: Daniel Jones is writing the next great comeback story for the undefeated Colts, Emeka Egbuka and Tetairoa McMillan are absolute stud rookie receivers, Travis Etienne is coming to form in his contract year and Myles Garrett’s impact continues to amaze me, even in blowout losses.

With overflowing talent throughout the league, this season promises to be one for the ages with no shortage of excitement or surprises. Whether you root for last year’s juggernauts to keep pace or wish for parity, it’s clear after just two weeks that the 2025 NFL season will give us fans a wild ride full of everything we love about football!
