AEP Ohio is assessing customer power outages in Athens, after more than 1,200 customers reported a power outage around 1:30 p.m Thursday. The power outage is expected to be restored at 5:30 p.m.
AEP crew members investigated the site and determined the cause was a truck hitting a low-hanging communication line, which tangled with the power line, according to AEP media relations.
AEP Ohio posted on Facebook that crews restored power to all affected customers around 4:30 p.m.
“Outages are inconvenient and we appreciate your patience as crews worked as quickly as they safely could to restore electricity,“ the post said.
A map showed the location of the power outage, stretching from uptown Athens to about 10 miles east.
