The Bobcats head into the 2026-2027 campaign with a young and external roster. The Bobcats return two golfers from last season in sophomores Rylan Hall and Jack Flores. The team recruited three transfers and three freshmen after losing six seniors.
The Bobcats opened their season by traveling to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, for Miami’s Redhawk Intercollegiate, where the team tied for 13th at +28.
In round one, junior Mikey Schutte and sophomore Gabriel Mainella opened their season finishing at even par. They combined for seven birdies and 22 pars. At three-over comes Hall. Hall opened his season with a strong front nine, finishing one under par with two birdies and six pars but struggling on the back with four bogeys.
Freshman Will Mangas opened his collegiate career shooting +7. On the front, he shot a 41 with five pars but settled in on the back, shooting even par up until the 18th, where a double bogey pushed him to two over.
Freshman Cole Jones finished +10 to open his career. The St. Mary’s graduate struggled in his first outing, finishing with seven bogeys and two double bogeys. Rounding out the group came independent freshman Jack Marsh. Marsh had a productive debut, shooting +7. Excluding double bogeys on the 8th and 12th, he finished with three birdies and eight pars.
In the second round, Hall turned in a spectacular round for the Bobcats, finishing three under. He shot a jaw-dropping five under on the front with birdies on holes two, four, and seven while adding an eagle on the third. He continued that play on the back with another birdie on the 11th and five pars.
Mangas had a great second round, dropping five strokes and finishing two over. He finished the first nine with a 34 (-2) that included two birdies and seven pars before a double bogey on the 12th and three bogeys pushed him to four over on the back.
Mainella continued the Bobcats' dominance on the front with a similar round to Mangas, also finishing the front with two birdies and seven pars; however, after a strong start to the back with a par and birdie, he’d bogey six of his final seven holes to finish the round three over.
Following close behind came Jones at four over par. Jones had a solid front nine with two birdies, but a double bogey on the eighth cost him a one-under front nine. On the back, he scored 38 (+3) that included four bogeys, a birdie and four pars.
Rounding out the group came Schutte at six over par with two double bogeys, five bogeys and three birdies. Marsh dropped four strokes thanks to a strong front nine where he shot one under with back-to-back birdies on holes two and three.
Headed into the final round, the Bobcats sat at the bottom of the leaderboard, where they’d fight to finish tied for 13th with Miami Ohio’s B team at +13 and a final score of +28. Mangas continued to improve, dropping four strokes to finish out strong with a one-under round. Mangas had an incredible front nine, birdieing holes two, four and five alongside an eagle on the fifth.
Nipping at his heels came Jones at two over, where a costly double bogey on the first kept him from an even round, and he gave the Bobcats a consistent even back nine with nine straight pars.
Hall turned in another solid round for Ohio, shooting five over with three birdies, five bogeys and a double bogey on the 18th. Schutte remained the same in the final round, shooting another six-over round with six bogeys and twelve pars.
Marsh continued to give the Bobcats consistent play, finishing with another three-over round, headlined by another strong one under front nine with eight pars and one birdie. Rounding out the group came Mainella at +12, who struggled on the back nine with three double bogeys.
Hall led the way for the Bobcats, tying for 40th at +5 and tying for third alongside Mangas with an eagle. Mangas tied for 59th at +8, followed by Schutte tying for 64th at +12, Marsh tying for 70th at +13, Mainella in 74th at +14 and Jones rounding out the core tying for 75th at +15.
The Bobcats look to improve on their performances in two weeks as they travel to Wisconsin for the Badger Invitational Sept. 27-29.
