6 ways to support the Bobcats in style this Homecoming

For one of the biggest games of the year, many fans want to show up and show out for their team with great outfits. Here are six potential ways to support the Bobcats in style.

Athleisure

When in doubt, or just when wanting to be comfortable, athleisure is a great move. Athleisure, or athletic leisure wear, is a comfy-cute hybrid style that is always a sure winner. Within this category, there are a number of different routes to go.

For the easiest execution, pairing black or green leggings with some Ohio University gear from the bookstore is a clear way to show Bobcat fandom while staying relaxed all day.

For a trendier take, a green matching set is a great option. Style a set with a matching cloth headband to take on Peden Stadium with confidence.

“SEC style”

In direct contrast to athleisure’s focus on comfort, Southeastern Conference schools are known for their students’ tendency to dress quite formally for football. These outfits tend to look a bit more like their Sunday best, rather than a classic college student outfit. “SEC style” has become more evident with the rise of social media, inspiring some to dress up, even at smaller schools.

Although this preppy style may not be the norm at OU, it cannot hurt to experiment a little. Landmarks of the SEC game day look are dresses, skirts, boots and color-coordinated, upscale matching sets. Whether or not such a look is fitting for an OU football game is up to the wearer.

Go all out with green and white

For fans who bleed green and white, classic game day outfits are an obvious choice. There are several options when it comes to being so visually expressive with one’s team of choice.

Of course, there is the age-old tradition of face paint for games. The truly dedicated may opt to paint their faces (or even bodies) fully green and white. For those looking to scale it back a bit, painting a small bobcat paw on a cheek will do.

When it comes to clothes, green-and-white striped overalls are a student section favorite. There is perhaps no better way to proudly, and a little obnoxiously, declare one’s Bobcat pride.

Tailgate chic

Many students at OU choose to wear some form of denim, whether it be shorts, a skirt or regular jeans, to games. Wearing denim bottoms with a tank top or a T-shirt with OU graphics or colors is an easy and tailgate-friendly way to party through the day and keep on going to the game.

These types of outfits are a failsafe choice. They are adaptable to a wide range of temperatures; they are comfortable and they have the opportunity to be fashionable.

Accessorize to the max

In case an outfit is missing some homecoming flair, accessories are a fun way to sell the look. For instance, OU green hair bows can spice up the simplest ensembles. For anyone who may happen to have green shoes, football season is the perfect time to pull them out and match them with an outfit.

A more unique way to accessorize is by button-pin-making. Young women on “TikTok” and other social media platforms have taken trendsetting into their own hands with their game-day-themed button online shops. This seems to be an especially popular choice for girls dating football players, who use the buttons as an opportunity to display the jersey number of their player of choice.

DIY

When all else fails, getting creative can help fans put their own spin on things. Taking a purposefully oversized T-shirt from the Bookstore and cutting it can lead to unlimited possibilities.

For one, cutting the back of a shirt into various patterns is always a fun option. A more complicated option is to cut and tie the sides of a shirt to make it tighter and feature hand-tied bows along the sides.

An even more artistic method of improving upon plain shirts is to sew patches onto shirts, creating a unique patchwork-style tee, something which has been trending for the past few years. Of course, social media platforms like “Pinterest” and “TikTok” never fail to provide DIY ideas for crafts like these.

Peden Stadium is sure to be full of all these trends and more on Saturday, but all that really matters is that Bobcats show up and represent the green and white.
