Ohio Director of Athletics Jim Schaus, a key component of Ohio's athletic success since taking the position in 2008, signed on to stay in town for an additional five years recently, Ohio Athletics announced Monday.

Schaus will head the athletic department through 2017 and will be paid $247,000, up from $232,824.

Schaus has revamped the Bobcats' operating budget in his time with Ohio, balancing what was a $2.3 million annual deficit, according to an Ohio Athletics news release.

The release also said Ohio student-athletes have compiled a cumulative grade point average better than 3.0 since his arrival.

He also led fundraising for Ohio's planned $12.5 million multipurpose center, men's basketball locker room renovations and athletic training suite.

Ohio football coach Frank Solich was pleased to hear of Schaus' extension Monday, saying he has "always been confortable" with Schaus' decision making.

“If you have confidence and feel good about your AD and he has confidence and feels good about you and your staff, then that meshes what you’re looking for and enables everybody to move forward in a positive direction," Solich said.
