Despite preparing for the upcoming Mid-American Conference Tournament this weekend, Ohio signed its first three recruits that will join the Bobcats for the 2013 season in Katie Horton, Ali Lake and Mallory Salis.

Horton is a 6-1 outside hitter from Wayne Memorial High School in Michigan, where she led her team to two consecutive district championships. She has the ability to play all six positions and is ranked No. 95 on PrepVolleyball’s Senior Ace list.

After currently featuring all out-of-state players on the current roster, the Bobcats signed Lake from Lakota East High School in Liberty Township, Ohio — marking her as the only Bobcats' player from the Buckeye State.

“Ali has been a recruit of ours for years now,” Ohio coach Ryan Theis said. “She is a very physical attacker, which is one of the things that drew us to her, was her ability to hit hard and be physical at the net blocking-wise.”

Lake is also a 6-1 middle blocker, and was a Division I All-Ohio honorable mention last season after leading her team to a regional final appearance. She finished the season with 446 kills, 227 blocks and 117 digs.

The third recruit for the Bobcats is Salis, a 5-8 outside hitter from Oak Lawn, Ill. Salis earned the 2012 East Suburban Catholic Conference player of the year award this season, while also being named First-Team All-Area by the Chicago Sun Times.

Salis will become the fourth player from Illinois on the Bobcats, joining freshman setter Abby Gilleland, sophomore outside hitter Kelly Lamberti and sophomore middle blocker Hannah Burkle.
