After finishing in first in all of her four races against West Virginia on Saturday, Sophomore Tori Bagan was named the Mid-American Conference swimmer of the week Thursday.

The meet marked a turning point for Bagan this season, as she finally is posting the same times as she already did last year, prior to suffering a stress fracture.

“She was out for the pool for the whole summer and part of the fall,” Ohio coach Greg Werner said adding that she is a lot better than what she showed against West Virginia.

Last year, Bagan was Ohio’s best freshman, placing 4th in the 100-yard breaststroke and 7th in the 100-yard and 6th in the 50-yard freestyle, in which she swam even faster than senior sprinting ace Lauren Funk.

The stress fracture stopped her positive development for almost half the season, as she was not able to win any events until last Saturday.

“She is starting to practice more and more,” Werner said.

If Bagan is already able to earn MAC swimmer of the week, while not being at the peak of her training already, many more honors should follow soon.
