If anyone actually reads these things, you may ask yourself: “Luke, why don’t you talk about baseball or something other than football or basketball?

Well, today I want to write about how Major League Baseball and the National Hockey League are unappealing fantasy sports to play.

First off, I have a lot of respect for both sports. Baseball is arguably the backbone of America, while hockey is probably one of the most taxing sports in history.

But in terms of fantasy sports, playing either has made me bored and uninvolved.

With free agency running rampant in the MLB, it’s an exciting time for fans. Robinson Cano is going to be sleepless in Seattle for the near future and closer Grant Balfour just signed a two-year contract with the Orioles.

But in all honesty, fantasy baseball is hard. I mean, really hard.

It’s not quite as simple as the other mainstream sports, with owners having to worry about pitching and multiple offensive and defensive positions. Between keepers and obscure stats, fantasy baseball just makes my head spin.

But hockey is a bit of a different story. At times I found myself having trouble following the NHL, especially in the midst of playoff football and the beginning of basketball.

And it’s hard to pay attention to transactions during hockey.

It’s not that I don’t care for the Anaheim Ducks success or Sidney Crosby, I just think I care more about the National Football’s wildcard race.

Again, I don’t want people to feel like I don’t care for baseball or hockey, or soccer for that matter, I just feel like those three sports have a while until they reach the plethora success that fantasy football has created.

Come on, which fantasy didn’t get amped up when Jamaal Charles dropped 51 points in some leagues?

To show some respect for those fantasy sports, I’ll give my fantasy player of the week to an NHL player:

Luke’s Fantasy Player of the Week: Patrick Kane, Right Wing for the Chicago Blackhawks – for pushing his point streak to 10 and averaging nearly two points per night.
