Ohio 88, Akron 76

The Bobcats have now lost 10 straight games, falling 88-76 to Akron on Senior Night. This was the first time this season Ohio broke the 70 point barrier and did not win. 

 

Second Half

Ohio got out to a 9-2 run of their own, cutting the score to 43-39 with 18:17 to play. The Zips regained the momentum and expanded their lead to 61-49 with 11:49 left in the contest. The big story from the game has been the impressive play of Akron's Hannah Luburgh, who finished the outing with 32 points.

 

Ohio made a run late in the game, cutting the lead to 81-76 with 47.4 to play, but missed shots ended the game with an Akron victory.

Both teams went back and forth through most of the first half, but a 9-2 Akron run put the Zips ahead at the break.

 

First Half

 

Akron's Hanna Luburgh outscored the Bobcats 10-9 at the first media timeout. With 11:22 to play, the Zips held an 18-15 lead on the Bobcats, in part to their three point shooting. Ohio came back to tie it up at 23 at the third media timeout, but Akron slowly began pulling away. Both teams have tried to attack the glass and have kicked it outside for three point attempts.

Preview

The Bobcats hope to snap their nine-game losing streak as they host Akron today in The Convo. In the last matchup with the Zips on Jan. 23, Ohio lost 80-56.

 

Today is senior day, so Ohio will honor the careers of Erin Bailes and Olivia McCuskey. Both players were injured and were not medically cleared to participate this season. Adyn Bucher, 10, is in attendance and will be with the team.
