Prior to Monday's city council meeting, a demonstration calling for Athens to back a ceasefire in Palestine was staged outside the Athens City Building. During the meeting, the Athens City Council decided on a resolution that would demand and encourage a ceasefire and de-escalation in Gaza from state and federal leaders. Around 25 residents of Athens and students from Ohio University came to the demonstration in support of withdrawing American forces from Gaza and in mourning for the deceased.
