Impromptu Student Senate meeting passes multiple resolutions

Meeting underneath its normal location, Student Senate had a hasty meeting Monday night where several budget resolutions were read and passed unanimously.

After barely having enough senators present to hold a meeting, Senate met in Walter Hall 145 and passed four budget resolutions and a resolution to appoint the Senator Emeriti Committee.

The body also had its first reading of a resolution that would recommend a review of the Student Code of Conduct.

“We should be consistent in trying to make sure our language is up to date and making sure our benchmarks are up for review here,” said Student Senate Treasurer Evan Ecos.

The Senate resolution was spurred on by Molly Nocheck, director of Students Defending Students, who believes a comprehensive review of the code of conduct needs to take place.

The resolution will come up for a vote at the next meeting.

The budget resolutions allocated funding to the Bobcat Medal award and dinner, funding to make T-shirts for senior week, $240 to fund the purchase of an all-you-can-eat buffet at The Pigskin for seniors and less than $10 for Monday Movie Night.

Another resolution approved the formation of the Senator Emeriti Committee, which will decide which senators are considered emeriti members of the body after they leave Senate or graduate, Vice President Amrit Saini said.

The Student Appropriations Commission had a balance of $77,740.48 at the meeting while Senate’s balance was $20,202.70.

Neither Interim Dean of Students Jenny Hall-Jones or Vice President for Student Affairs Ryan Lombardi were in attendance as they were attending another campus event.
