Moms Weekend a 'little vacation' for OU students, visiting mothers

that's the best part

said Deb Amos, the mother of Jaime Amos, a junior studying hearing speech language sciences. We call it our little vacation. Rain may have been a problem during the weekend, but the mothers who visited campus for Moms Weekend kept their spirits up while spending time with their children.

Spending the weekend with her that's the best part

said Deb Amos, the mother of Jaime Amos, a junior studying hearing speech language sciences. We call it our little vacation.

Deb has come down to Athens for Moms Weekend since Jaime was a freshman. Every time I come here

I'm glad she chose Ohio University.

In previous years, the Amos' have helped raise money for Relay for Life on Court Street. Although they're not wild partiers, Jaime and Deb like to spend their nights on Court Street to mom watch.

That's the fun part

Deb said. We like the show.

Ruth Sawdey came down to Moms Weekend to see her son Josh Sawdey, a senior studying biological science, play with his band at the Front Room on Saturday night. Josh plays saxophone for the band Essence.

A sophomore trio with their moms tried to make their Moms Weekend a memorable experience. Caitlin Tarantelli, Laura Harman and Megan Boham made their moms T-shirts that read Cougar Shuffle to wear uptown.

The girls also had prizes for their moms if they completed certain tasks like cartwheels, handstands or flirting with a boy. Prizes included colorful plastic wine glasses sporting the same message as the T-shirts and foam hats.

It's been fun

Mary Boham, mother of Megan, said. I'm learning too much too quickly. This was Mary's first Moms Weekend.

Caitlin tried to reign in her mother by imposing some verbal restraints. My daughter said not to say anything

Dawn Tarantelli said. This was Dawn's second year coming down for Moms Weekend.

Friday night there were 26 calls for service for the Athens Police Department, according to the police report. The calls included nine disorderly conduct incidents and four fights, according to the report. Seven arrests were made Friday night. Charges against the seven individuals include five counts of underage consumption, six counts of disorderly conduct by intoxication, one count possession of marijuana, one count obstructing official business, one count persistent disorderly conduct and one count resisting arrest.

On Saturday, Athens police received 34 service calls, according to the police report. Ten calls concerned disorderly conduct incidents and two dealt with fights.

Two reports were filed on Saturday night, one for assault and the other for criminal damaging, according to the report. Only two arrests occurred, one for disorderly conduct by intoxication and one operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

This was the most uneventful Moms Weekend that I've ever worked

Lt. Ralph Harvey of the Athens Police Department said. We didn't have a single call on the midnight shift that was mom-related.

Of the 13 Moms Weekends he's worked, Harvey said it was the first that didn't include the arrests of any moms. We've had some issues in the past with Moms Weekend. Some are busier than others; this one wasn't.
