It doesn’t always take a study abroad trip to get a taste of a new culture.
This week marks the fourth annual World Music and Dance Festival. The festival is a celebration of the diverse cultures that engage in the discourse of art throughout the world. Throughout the week, dances and songs from around the world will be performed.
Paschal Yao Younge, director of the festival, said to expect nothing but the best for this year’s festival, just like previous years.
“So many different things are happening for this year,” said Younge. “There will be new exciting performances from different cultures and countries.”
The festival begins Monday, but will go out with a bang Saturday with the main event, the World Music and Dance Concert. Although the concert has been held for four years, Younge said audience members can expect some new features and art forms.
“The concert is going to be different,” he said. “We’re going to incorporate visual art sculptures by Dave Hostetler. We’re also bringing the creator of the modern steel drum Dr. Ellie Manette from Trinidad and other legends from Taiwan, Toronto, Cuba and more.”
Younge said this festival and concert will be just as educational as it will be fun.
“I’m very excited for this year’s festival and concert because of the variety of cultures represented,” he said. “We’re all very committed to this festival because we want our students to learn and appreciate different cultures.”
All proceeds will go toward the 2015 festival.
