Herman Cain to make appearance at OU

Former Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain will be in Athens, Ohio Thursday to speak at an event  put on by the Ohio University College Republicans.

Four months after suspending his 2012 presidential campaign, Cain is scheduled to speak to Ohio University students tomorrow in Morton 235.

The free event will begin at 2 p.m. and is open to the public.

“The chance to hear the honorable Herman Cain will be an amazing opportunity for Ohio University students,” said Allison Arnold, the group’s communications chair.

Cain briefly came to the forefront of the Republican race last fall behind his 9-9-9 tax plan, but was forced to suspend his campaign in December due to allegations of sexual misconduct.

He is not being paid by the group or the university to speak.

Before traveling to Ohio, Cain was scheduled to appear on the Fox News Channel program “Hannity” and at a dinner in Arizona Tuesday, according to his website, cainconnections.com.

A visit from a former presidential candidate of this nature to campus is rare, and Arnold said she is looking forward to it.

“It’s pretty uncommon,” she said. “But it’s exciting.”
