‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ trailer brings excitement to fans

Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios are back with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man with “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.” As the first Spider-Man introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Holland has left a vast impact on the franchise and the legacy of Spider-Man. With the success of the last three movies focused on Holland’s Spider-Man, fans have their eyes on the new trailer.

The trailer begins with a short recap and reintroduces the depressing dilemma of the spider-like crime fighter: nobody remembers Peter Parker. The difficult, sad ending to “Spider-Man: No Way Home” is a challenge for the protagonist. Parker has to restart his relationships and must keep his identity secret again.

“You don’t remember me, but we used to know each other,” Halland said in the narration. This implies that he is speaking to a character we know and that used to know Peter Parker.

“Something bad was going to happen, and the only way to stop it was to make everyone forget about me,” Holland said.

The trailer follows this theme of Parker in solitude. He’s Spider-Man alone, he’s himself alone and he’s presumably not attending university like his peers. In “No Way Home,” his identity was revealed, not allowing him to attend MIT; however, now that no one remembers him, there is a possibility that he can reapply to MIT or other universities.

Either way, it seems the internal challenge for this movie is for Peter Parker to restart his personal life outside of Spider-Man, especially because we see him sneaking into a house party with his old friends, MJ and Ned

As for Spider-Man, we see him being awarded the key to the city and continuing his other “friendly neighborhood Spider-Man” duties. The trailer identifies new villains, who are theorized to be Punisher, Scorpion and Tarantula. Most of these villains can be a small nod to comics and to catch us up on what Spider-Man has been up to.

Aside from the villains, we also get a glimpse into the evolution of Spider-Man. There is a small narration discussing the “three life cycles” of spiders. Spiders really have three stages to their life cycle, not three life cycles. However, the metaphor is used as a way to show Peter Parker is going through a vulnerable change, but for some spiders, it can be a “rebirth.”

Fans are raving with excitement, hoping the film brings back attention to the MCU. Some fans are excited to see organic webs from this version of Spider-Man. The trailer shows Parker visiting Bruce Banner, or The Hulk, in the trailer to discuss genetic mutations. This can be another challenge that Spider-Man will face in this movie.

Others still want to know what Sadie Sink’s character could be in the new movie, as she was not in the trailer. Many fans believe Sink’s character is Jean Grey, as the actress resembles the character. This theory is the most popular as the trailer hints at mind manipulation, which is Jean Grey’s realm of power.

Another character theorized to be Sink’s is Typhoid Mary, who is associated with The Hand. The Hand, an ancient organization of ninjas, is confirmed to be in the movie, so this is a likely outcome.

Other theories have been thrown around, including the characters known for red or orange hair, with some being possible antagonists of Spider-Man.

Mostly, fans are excited to see MJ and Peter Parker back together. Still, fans are looking for easter eggs and hints for what could come.

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” will be available in theaters on July 31.
