The Empower Campaign, a project that helps educate Africa's orphans and vulnerable children, is hosting its first annual five-kilometer race tomorrow. The run begins at noon at Ping Student Recreation Center.
Runners still can register today from 11-3 in Baker University Center, 6-8 in Ping and on race day beginning at 11 a.m., said Andria Sherrow, founder of Empower.
The group hopes to have 500 runners and raise $10,000, said Sjanneke Pence, a graduate student who is coordinating the event. It costs $15 to enter the race and runners are encouraged to fundraise through family and friends to raise more money. -

The Empower Campaign is a project under the non-profit EDUCATE foundation, Inc. Sherrow, also the director of the Institute for the African Child at Ohio University, started the foundation after she lived in Africa while doing graduate research.- it hit me hard
