Softball: Ohio looks to snap skid against Wright State

In a tight Mid-American Conference race, the last thing Kelly Rodriguez and the Bobcats needed was a losing streak.

Ohio (18-24, 7-7 MAC) has lost four in a row and six of its last seven games, but is hoping to return to its winning ways when it faces Wright State today in a doubleheader. Rodriguez said a win would be just what the team needs.

It wouldn't do anything for us for the conference

but for our emotions it would be nice to get a couple of wins Rodriguez said. We have everything we need. It's just a matter of bringing all the components of the game together and playing like we know how to play.

Coach Jill Matyuch said her team has struggled lately and is beating itself up over its recent woes.

We have stumbled and

you know

this is a team of overachievers. They overachieve in whatever they do

so obviously they can be a little extra-hard on themselves

Matyuch said. Hopefully

they can just kind of get back in the swing of things.

One of the reasons the Bobcats have struggled during their losing streak is that they haven't scored a lot of runs. When Ohio scores less than three runs, they are just 4-19 on the season, but when they score three or more runs, the team is 14-5. Third baseman Kristen Salvatore said the team needs to execute when it has runners on base.

I think execution is key

Salvatore said. As a whole

we just need to execute and just get it done. We have the potential ' we can do it.

Ohio hitters should have ample opportunities to turn their offensive struggles around today. Wright State pitchers have allowed opposing hitters to hit .327 off of them and starters Jamie Perkins and Allison Cox have ERA's of 3.68 and 5.17, respectively. The Raiders (17-25) are also winless in four games against MAC opponents, having been outscored 21-3 in those games.

Matyuch said that the Bobcats just need something positive to happen today to turn their recent woes around.

When you are dealing with a game of streaks and confidence every game is important because that can take you either way

Matyuch said. Whether it's positive at-bats
