Athens City Council members will continue outlining next year’s city budget Tuesday night and will consider a benefits package that could increase the pay of 170 non-union city employees.
Athens City Auditor Kathy Hecht reported to council last week that she expects the city to have about $3 million in extra cash at the end of the year. An estimated $1 million in savings in 2012 will come from city revenue being higher than expected, Hecht siad.
Council members will also consider purchasing a new fire ladder for the Athens Fire Department that would be able to reach some of the taller buildings in Athens — both on and off campus.
Council will meet at the City Building on East Washington Street at 7:00 p.m.
