Unify offers variety show to share diversity with students

Throughout the year, many Ohio University student organizations play host to various events promoting people's understandings of diversity. However, people can experience what the diversity really means tonight at a variety show hosted by Unify.

Unify, a student organization committed to increasing diversity at OU, will present its 4th REAL Variety Show tonight.

We are bringing people from different backgrounds together and actually seeing how much more interesting things are when you have a real variety of people

said Micah Mitchell, senior organizational communication major and president of Unify.

Before Mitchell held the first REAL Variety Show in spring 2005, he and his friend Gretchen Cataline, vice president of Unify, attended many variety shows on campus, such as those hosted by Open Doors and LGBT. They realized these shows were only presented by a certain group of people.

If one of the student organizations with a number of black students host a variety show then only students of color tend to attend Mitchell said.

About 50 performers from various backgrounds will show 12 acts, including singing, dancing and comedy acts.

The REAL Variety Show will take place at 8 p.m. in the Baker Center Ballroom. Admission is $3 per person.
