Despite frigid temperatures and snow, Ohio University students convened in front of Baker University Center demanding a tuition freeze.
About nine students have been standing outside the fourth floor of Baker Center since noon in 34 degree weather with handmade banners and posters while handing out ice-pops and flyers to onlookers
“The cold doesn’t bother me as much as a tuition increase and student debt,” said Jacob Chaffin, a spokesperson for the Ohio University Student Union and a junior studying education. “Administrators are giving us the cold shoulder, and so we’re standing out here to prove that point.”
Other students protesting included Ellie Hamrick, a senior studying anthropology. She said she came out to protest because she thought it was a necessity for the university to take action.
“This is a desperate need for administrators to take notice and this protest is symbolic of the need to get something done,” she said.
