Okay, I can accept the youthful hijinks of someone rolling the giant cable spindle into the Emeriti Park pond.
What I CANNOT accept is the possibility of coming in to work some morning and seeing the local fire department fishing a couple of drowned and frozen water-logged bodies out of the park pond because people don't have the sense to stay off thin ice. Is it REALLY worth risking your life to place some sawhorses in the middle of the pond? To spell out messages in the snow?
It's not been cold enough for the ice on the pond to be considered safe. Please stay off the ice. Don't make the university or the local police have to call your loved ones, or show up at their house, to tell them you offed yourself acting stupid.
There are signs around the pond warning you to stay off the ice. Perhaps the addition of the words or you could die a miserable death would help get the point across.
