The NCAA released its Graduation Success Rates yesterday, and five Ohio teams achieved a 100 percent graduation rate for students entering college.
Swimming and diving, volleyball, field hockey and men's and women's golf teams graduated 100 percent of their students.
These are tremendous academic accomplishments by our student-athletes
said Jim Schaus, director of Athletics. These reports are a true indicator of academic excellence with respect to graduation rates and overall scholastic progress.
The men's basketball team's graduation rate of 87 percent was 21 percent higher than the national average. The Bobcats had the second-highest number in the Mid-American Conference. Bowling Green's 91 percent rate was the highest.
Ohio football's 71 percent graduation rate was 4 percent higher than the national average. Miami had the highest mark in the conference at 79 percent.
The rankings are different than that of the Federal Graduation Rates in that the methodology, established by the NCAA includes transfer students into the rankings from 2000 to 2003.
Ohio wrestling had the lowest rate at the university at 68 percent, but the mark was the study's third highest by institutions in the MAC.
The unversity's swimming and diving coach Greg Werner said his team prides in the mark because it measures both academic success and retention.
We're happy to have that distinction he said. This means that they're enjoying their experience here. It's a great thing on its own
but it's even better because we've never had a perfect score before.
