Post Letter: Experience qualifies RSVP candidate

As a current member of Student Senate who has seen Chris Wimsatt, in action as a member of senate on the Budget Committee and at SAC meetings, I believe that he will serve as a capable, effective treasurer of Student Senate.

I can also state for the record that Mr. Wimsatt also enjoys a wealth of private sector knowledge. Including his current position as a manager at Ruby Tuesday where he is expected to turn a budget into business results, this shows that he also is just as qualified in terms of experience as compared to his counterpart; he also has the experience dealing with the senate budget that further qualifies him in an area where the other candidate is lacking.

This area is dealing with the actual senate budget. I also believe that this experience shows that Chris will be infinitely more dependable when serving as the next Student Senate treasurer.

The fact that there is not a female executive candidate on the RSVP ticket is noted, however, many female candidates were asked to serve as an executive and decided that, for their best interests and for that of Ohio University, they would not run as an executive.

It is also important to note that these women, who were asked to serve the RSVP ticket as an executive, are still in fact supporters of the ticket.

I realize that it is often stated that someone running as an executive is a “team player.” I don’t think that anyone exemplifies this more than Chris Wimsatt, I served as his vice commissioner before accepting a different position, and I noticed that in my transition Chris was nothing less than an exemplary example of a team player.

From helping me learn the protocol during senate meetings to programming, he has done nothing less but so much more than what was required or expected.

I would like to state that, for the record, Student Senate is a non-partisan student group, and those party lines have nothing to do with senate function nor do they impair senate functioning, whether it is as an intern or executive.

I believe that the treasurer we deserve is no less than Chris Wimsatt, who has shown time in and time out that he has what it takes to be an effective and reliable steward of the senate finances.

Please share my confidence in Chris with a vote for him May 18 and 19 on your OU Web page.

Anthony Richardson is the University Life senator on Student Senate.
