Track and Field: Junior breaks school record with 2nd-place shot put finish

Bahiyjaui Allen broke the record again, but in the end it was not good enough.

Allen broke her school record in the shot put for the second time this season with a throw of 49-08.25 in the Kent State Duals on Friday.

When the final results were measured, however, the junior's throw was only far enough for second place.

Kent State's Nia Henderson beat out Allen with a throw of 51-11.25. It was the first time that the junior had not come away with a first place finish this season. Allen also added a fourth-place finish in the weight throw.

The Bobcats finished first in two other events at the Dual, competing against Kent State, Miami and Youngstown.

In her first meet of the season, Kari Summers finished in first place for the Bobcats in the 3000-meter run with a time of 9:58.57.

Teammate Annie Beecham, also running in her first meet of the season, ran 10:01.52 in the event finishing third.

Melissa Wiley captured her first first-place finish of the season in the 60-meter hurdles. The senior ran a time of 8.94. Wiley also finished second in the 200-meter dash.

Points were not awarded for how teams finished.

A number of other Bobcats found success in Kent on Friday.

Christen Bosch finished in a two-way tie for second place in the pole vault with a mark of 10-11.75.

In the 400-meter dash, Susan Plungis ran her way to a third-place finish. Brittany Vinson also finished third in the 60-meter dash.

Calls to coach Clay Calkins were not returned in time for print.
