It's not a good sign when a team collects as many hits as it does errors.
The Bobcats achieved this feat yesterday, totaling five hits and five errors in a 14-4 loss to Bowling Green.
Coach Joe Carbone said the Bobcats' defensive problems hurt their chances against the Falcons.
We just didn't make plays and didn't catch the ball
he said. We threw a lot of balls away and just didn't play very good defense. That's all I can say about it.
Along with problems in the field, the Bobcats could not generate much offense, totaling just five hits and four runs in the defeat. Falcons pitcher Tyler Johnson pitched a complete game with no Ohio hitters recording a multi-hit game.
He was locating his fastball up and down and throwing his breaking ball for a strike Carbone said. Tyler Johnson was throwing better than our hitters were hitting today.
Starter Chris Rigo (2-4)
coming off a one-hit complete game this past weekend against
Miami
allowed six runs
only two of which were earned
over 7 and 1/3 innings.
Rigo wasn't real sharp, Carbone said. He was competing, but he was putting guys on base with walks. He wasn't locating his pitches like last game.
The Falcons built an early 3-0 lead
scoring one run in each of the first three innings. The Bobcats responded with three runs in the sixth to tie the game at three before Bowling Green took the lead for good in its half of the sixth.
Although the Bobcats trailed just 5-3 after seven innings
the Bowling Green bullpen prevented any chance of a comeback in the eighth inning
allowing nine runs in the inning to ensure the victory for the Falcons.
After removing Rigo with one out in the eighth
Carbone turned to Matt Schlarb
