The president of City Council announced yesterday that he will be running for county treasurer in the 2012 election.
Bill Bias announced his plans to run at the Athens County Democratic party meeting yesterday, after current treasurer JaVon Kittle said she will not be seeking another term.
Bias said he had been talking to Kittle for some time about running for the position if she decided not to. Bias announced earlier this year that he would retire from his position as president after the November election.
“I was treasurer for the city of Athens before I was on City Council President—it was a position I really enjoyed,” he said.
Bias picked up this petition from the Athens County Board Elections today and said he hopes to get them out as soon as possible to collect signatures.
