On behalf of The Summer Post staff, I would like to extend our best wishes to Ohio University Police Officer Nathan Van Oort and his family.Van Oort, 44, was left in critical condition after being struck by lightning June 22, while participating in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Special Olympics near Logan, Ohio. Athens Police Department Officer Rick Crossen and Athens area resident Charles Murray were also injured in the strike.OUPD first employed Van Oort in April 2000, as a communication officer and he became a police officer in August 2002.
