Athens City Council will meet for the final time in 2012 on Monday night.
Council members will be voting on a series of finance-related ordinances that must be passed before the new fiscal year begins.
One such ordinance would give a one percent pay raise to council members, equaling between $75 and $90 a year, said Councilman Steve Patterson at a Nov. 26 City Council meeting. He added that council has abstained from pay raises since 2008.
“If we keep passing on pay raises each year, it will be an interesting uphill battle to keep on par with inflation,” he said. “(This pay raise) is more than reasonable.”
Council members will also vote on proposed benefits for non-union city workers and the approval of a loan that would promote low-income housing in Athens.
