The Ohio men's and women's swimming and diving teams capped off another solid weekend, winning their home meets in dominating fashion for the second straight weekend.
On Friday, the women's team overwhelmed a shorthanded Akron squad, defeating the Zips 174-103.
The medley relay
the 1 000-meter freestyle and the 200-meter freestyle at the beginning of the meet set the tone for us the rest of the meet
coach Greg Werner said. It was a very dominating pack all across the board.
Because of disciplinary reasons, Akron did not bring its entire team. Ohio was able to key off this lack of depth, winning 11 of the 16 events in the meet. In three of those 11 victories, the Bobcats won the top three places.
While the Bobcats did not record a first-place victory in the diving competition, Werner said that it was the highlight of the meet. We dove very well against one of the better diving squads in the conference
he said. We definitely rose to the challenge and had five personal best scores.
Saturday, the men's and women's team defeated Division III Denison. Both squads handily defeated their opponents with the women's team winning 130-55 while the men's team defeated the Big Red 125-63.
I was very happy how the ladies performed on their second consecutive day
Werner said. The men continued to improve off last week's performance.
The women's team again took control of the meet early, winning the first five races. By the end of the meet they had won 12 of the 13 events. The men's team also held the advantage throughout the meet, winning 10 of the 13 events on the day.
Because Denison's women's team did not have any divers, the Bobcats were able to take all of the points in the event. Ohio diver Lindsey Hamilton led the way for the women, setting a new team record in the 3-meter diving competition.
Lindsey recorded the best dive in school history and that is fantastic
Werner said. She definitely was the highlight of the meet.In her first season with the Bobcats, Hamilton said she felt that she had one of her better days of her young career.
It was really good to break the record
and it was great to have my teammates supporting me throughout my dives
Hamilton said. I have to keep working hard in the pool and remaining positive throughout the rest of the year.
