The Athens County Commissioners yesterday approved the Athens County Department of Job and Family Services entering into a marketing agreement with Chase Manhattan Bank.
The agreement will allow the Department of Job and Family Services to offer people who come in for the tax assistance program a bank account with direct deposit for their refund checks, said Jack Frech, director of the Athens County Department of Job and Family Services. This would allow people who do not have a bank account to receive their checks without having to wait for them in the mail.
The tax assistance program provides free assistance for anyone needing help with his or her income taxes. xt>The Department of Job and Family Services will be able to issue debit cards for the accounts. People who wish to use this new service will sign up online for an account when they go to the DJFS for the tax assistance program. They will receive the debit card in the mail later
said Tracy Galway spokeswoman for the Athens County Department of Job and Family Services. xt>The tax refund checks will be the only checks able to be deposited into these accounts, Galway said.
Also on the commissioners' agenda was an update on Community Action Block Grant projects from Jessica Stroh, Community Development Coordinator for Hocking-Athens-Perry Community Action. xt>She also asked the commissioners to authorize HAPCAP to send a request for an environmental release to the Housing and Urban Development Department. The release is needed to move the office in Athens to a boot camp in Glouster. xt>The commissioners also approved a revised State Capital Improvement Program request for two projects - the Co. Road 1 paving project and a separate countywide project. xt>The State Capital Improvement Program provides money through the Ohio Public Works Commission to local governments for improvements to roads bridges and other infrastructures.
