Women's Basketball: Bobcats tip off season with game against familiar foe

The Ohio women's basketball team begins its season tonight with an exhibition matchup against Ohio Dominican University.

For the Bobcats, Ohio Dominican is a familiar foe. The last time these two teams met at The Convo, it took a buzzer beater from Ohio's Jenny Poff's to lift the Bobcats to a 69-67 win.

We played them last year

so we have an idea of what we are going to do. Tracy Snider came in and put up some incredible numbers against us coach Semeka Randall said. She is going to come back in here again trying to do the same thing.

Snider had 22 points in last year's game.

Although stopping Snider will be a key to the game, Randall is focusing on getting the team ready for the regular season.

Just trying to understand what personnel kind of giving us a run through as we get ready for the season

Randall said.

Randall said the team will be trying a lot of different things in tonight's exhibition game.

I want to see combination - who plays well together

who plays hard when they're out there

Randall said. (Players) doing what we ask of them defensively

offensively and playing together. It's going to be a combination of a lot of things we're striving for.

Senior center Thia Gholson said the team needs a leader to emerge.

Us being seniors (Gholson

Kamille Buckner

Carolyn Barnett)

we have to be leaders. We are lacking a leader right now

Gholson said. We're all just trying to find our team.

Gholson said she does not put any extra pressure on herself to step up and be that leader.

A leader will come naturally
